Over the weekend, hundreds of Georgians rallied in “MAGA warrior” and GOP U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Buddy Carter’s district, protesting the attacks on Medicaid, Medicare, and the state’s jobs and economy that Carter eagerly backed in Donald Trump’s harmful budget law.
Carter, who was a “leader in crafting” Trump’s budget law, previously told Georgians that he “wanted to cut Medicaid more” and was “very proud” to cut Medicaid as part of the devastating legislation.

Savannah Morning News: ‘Hey, hey ho, ho! Buddy Carter’s got to go’: Big Beautiful Backlash protestors call out U.S. Rep
In Savannah, a crowd between 100 to 200 people gathered Saturday morning in Thomas Square Park to call out U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter and to protest against President Donald Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill, which he signed into law on July 4. According to a press release on Carter’s website, the legislator was a “leader in crafting” the legislation.
Suzanne Moccia, director of communications for Coastal Georgia for Democracy, singled out Carter for sponsoring the bill. “This was an effort to mobilize the community to hold Buddy Carter accountable for his vote. We have been protesting against DOGE [the advisory Department of Government Efficiency} and other issues and policies that have come from the Trump administration.”
Some protestors spoke of the domino effect such cuts could have, even for those people not directly affected.
“The cuts are directly affecting us,” said Corey Foreman of the Bryan County Democratic Party. “Even if our hospitals are not shut down due to these cuts, all the rural hospitals that are being cut down have to have somewhere to go, and where are they going to go? Those people are going to come to Chatham County to our one hospital that can treat trauma and that will hurt our residents on the coastal side of Georgia.”
Chaney hopes the rally will encourage people to head to the polls come November. “Vote and support policies that are going to support the 99%,” said Chaney. “This bill is detrimental to the fabric of our country, families, Medicaid and food assistance.”

The supporters held signs, shouted chants, and marched around Bullstreet as a part of their first amendment right.
Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill passed through Congress and was signed into law earlier this month, on American’s Independence Day. A bill that objectors here in Savannah say feels anything but free.
