Georgia Republicans Ditching D.C. Today to Avoid Vote on Releasing the Epstein Files

July 23, 2025

In response to House Republicans breaking for August recess early to avoid the release of the Epstein files, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:

“Just after passing the single biggest transfer of wealth from working people to the ultra-rich in the history of humankind, Georgia Republicans are back to bending the knee to the rich and powerful. Republicans are so hell-bent on protecting Donald Trump that they chose to cancel votes and skip town entirely to avoid releasing the Epstein files. Georgians demand better than leaders who hide the truth, protect predators and extend their vacations on our taxpayer dime.”

Republicans’ early vacation comes as polling shows that Americans, including Republican voters, overwhelmingly disapprove of their handling of the Epstein files. Georgia GOP Representatives Austin Scott (GA-8) and Brian Jack (GA-3) both form part of the Republican majority on a House committee that last week voted against releasing the files.
