ProPublica reporting confirms that at least two women have died as a result of this law, and “there are almost certainly others”
ProPublica reported on Sep 16th, that a young Georgia mother died after Donald Trump and Brian Kemp’s extreme abortion ban prevented her from getting life-saving reproductive care. An official state committee ruled her death preventable, stating that the 28-year-old mother “should not have died.” Just months before her death, Gov. Brian Kemp’s abortion ban went into effect after Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade.
“Doctors warned state legislators women would die if medical procedures sometimes needed to save lives became illegal,” the report states.
Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:
“Women should not be dying because they can’t access lifesaving health care. Doctors should not fear prosecution for stopping a preventable death. But here in Georgia they are – thanks to Donald Trump and Brian Kemp’s abortion ban.”
“Amber Nicole Thurman should still be alive today, and my heart goes out to her family.
“Just last week, Donald Trump once again bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade, making Trump Abortion Bans possible in Georgia and states across the country. Doctors told us women would die if these bans went into effect, and now that nightmare is our reality in Georgia.
“If Trump is re-elected, things will get worse. His Project 2025 agenda would ban abortion in all 50 states and restrict access to contraception and IVF. We have no time to waste and must urgently address this crisis by electing Vice President Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot to restore reproductive freedom nationwide.”
