Derek Dooley and Brad Raffensperger Silent on GOP Budget Bill Despite Considering Senate Runs

July 3, 2025

Dooley and Raffensperger “didn’t comment” when asked if they support the GOP budget bill

Former sub-par football coach Derek Dooley and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger refused to answer whether they support the Trump budget bill that would threaten the health care of 750,000 Georgians, according to reporting from the AJC.

Dooley and Raffensperger’s silence stands in stark contrast to other candidates for the race who have lined up in support of the bill, despite the fact that “no state may have more to lose than Georgia” from its cuts to Medicaid, health care, and jobs.

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

  • The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reached out to all leading GOP contenders for Senate and governor. All but two affirmed their support. Former football coach Derek Dooley, who is considering a Senate bid, and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a potential candidate for Senate or governor, both didn’t comment.

Meanwhile, other candidates and potential candidates like Rep. Buddy Carter, Commissioner John King, and Rep. Mike Collins, have voted for and praised the bill:
