Chairwoman Katie Bernhardt Issues Statement on Whitehorn Victory

March 24, 2024

Tonight in Caddo Parish we made history. Despite attempts to suppress the vote and disenfranchise voters, the people have spoken and made it clear that voter suppression tactics won’t be tolerated in 2024 in Louisiana.

The Louisiana Democratic Party was on the ground from day one fighting to protect voters rights and working with the Whitehorn campaign to build a strong gotv effort along with strong partner organizations. Democratic leaders from every corner of the state joined in the effort to support Whitehorn– that’s the unity that will lead Democrats to more victories this year.

We doubled down and took a democratic stronghold back, this was seen in the City Marshall race last year, now in this historic race where we elected the first black sheriff not once, not twice, but 3 times, and we will see it again in November when we send a democrat to Congress in the 6th Congressional district. The people of Caddo are better served by these wins-and our nation will be too. The whole country should take note, we just showed the path to a democratic majority in congress which runs right through the state of Louisiana, starting in Caddo parish!

The Whitehorn campaign was organized and made it an easy partnership to build upon. We are so proud of Sheriff-Elect Whitehorn and the Honorable campaign he ran during this entire election process.

This is truly a testimony to his character and perseverance. Tonight we celebrate a strong democratic victory and more democratic victories to come in 2024 and beyond.
