ICYMI: Hartford Courant: Candidate’s disputed CT residency impacts high-stakes U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania
- While the candidates in a tight U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania have been consistently battling over solutions for their state, one of the biggest issues that has emerged is whether the Republican challenger actually lives in Connecticut.
- There is no doubt that [David] McCormick, a multimillionaire business executive, lived in Connecticut for 12 years during his time as president and later chief executive officer of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, that was founded by Greenwich billionaire Ray Dalio.
- “I’m very eager to welcome back Mr. McCormick to Connecticut after Bob Casey wins this campaign,” Murphy told The Courant in an interview. “Connecticut is a place that’s pretty important to him. There’s a lot of really wealthy Republicans who end up state-shopping for Senate seats. You try to find a state that you have some very narrow tie to, move there, and run for the Senate.”
- The issue has come up repeatedly on television during the bitter campaign in Pennsylvania, both in interviews with reporters and in commercials. […]
- In the current race, Casey and his supporters say McCormick is a multimillionaire who is detached from Pennsylvania and has been there infrequently over the past 15 years.
- “He hasn’t told the truth about where he lives. He lives in Connecticut,” Casey said on television. “He hasn’t been truthful about that. So you have an out-of-state candidate who is being supported by out-of-state billionaires. … He hadn’t voted in Pennsylvania in about 16 years. So I think that’s an issue.”
