Scott has Opposed Legislation to Protect IVF Access Three Separate Times

On Sep 17th, Rick Scott voted against the Right to IVF Act — bipartisan legislation to establish federal protections for IVF treatment — for the second time. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement in response:

“Rick Scott has again voted against protecting access to IVF — a miracle treatment that has allowed millions of Americans to start families. He continues to lie to Floridians about his phony support for IVF but Scott’s toxic anti-choice record is clear. He’ll stop at nothing to rip away personal decisions from women and their families, and Floridians will hold him accountable in November.”

Scott has spent millions lying to Floridians about his phony support for IVF but his record is clear. In June, Scott first voted against the Right to IVF Act and blocked similar legislation in March. Instead, Scott introduced an “empty, symbolic” resolution that would do nothing to actually protect IVF and has declined to support Trump’s IVF plan.

Here’s what to know about Scott’s “100% pro-life” record:

Scott supports Florida’s’ abortion ban: “I am 100% pro-life and if I was still governor, I would sign this bill.”
In April, Scott doubled down on his support for the ban, saying “If I was the sitting governor, and the six-week abortion ban came in front of me, I would sign it. I’ve always said I would sign it.“
On the day Florida’s ban took effect, Scott said he would sign “any” anti-abortion legislation.
Scott pledged to vote against Amendment 4, keeping Florida’s abortion ban in place.
Scott co-sponsored a national abortion ban that would put doctors in prison.
Scott celebrated the Supreme Court’s Decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which he has pushed for since 2010.
Scott voted against bipartisan legislation to protect access to contraception.
Since Roe’s downfall, Scott has set his sights on restricting access to safe and effective medication abortion.
Scott received an A+ rating from an extreme anti-choice group which opposes IVF and contraception and wants to ban abortion at conception.
