INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Democratic Party on Oct 8th, released the following statement in response to Mike Braun’s public safety plan.
In 2015, Braun voted against “Cameron’s Law”, which was in response to a 5-year old South Bend boy who was victimized by an adult and included other criminal justice matters.
“Talk is cheap, and Hoosiers know that actions speak louder than words. Mike Braun’s latest public safety plan rings hollow when you look at his record. While he claims to prioritize the safety of Indiana families, his voting history tells a different story,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl.
”In 2015, Braun was one of just 22 members of the Indiana House of Representatives to vote against HB 1304—a bill that would have made Indiana safer. This legislation included crucial protections for victims of stalking, ensuring they received 45 days’ notice before their stalker’s release from custody. It also increased penalties for child molestation when it resulted in the transmission of a dangerous sexually transmitted disease and allowed the state to seek the death penalty or life without parole for school shooters. When he had the opportunity to stand up for Hoosier families, Mike Braun chose not to. His vote against HB 1304 put our communities at greater risk. Hoosiers deserve a leader who prioritizes their safety every day, not just when it’s politically convenient.”
