APCG Cites Promoting Indigenous Rights, Protecting Sacred Lands and Cultural Preservation as Reasons for Endorsement

In case you missed it, the All Pueblo Council of Governors (APCG) announced their endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for President and Governor Tim Walz for Vice President late last week. The APCG represents the 20 Pueblos of New Mexico and Texas.

In a statement announcing the endorsement, the APCG cited Biden-Harris Administration accomplishments like, “significant, milestone decisions including promoting Indigenous rights, safeguarding sacred lands, such as the protection of Chaco Canyon, and supporting the inclusion of traditional ecological knowledge in federal policy,” as reasons they chose to endorse the Harris-Walz campaign.

The APCG also expressed “grave concerns” of Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda in their statement, saying the right-wing proposals “threaten the cultural and environmental integrity of Pueblo lands and undermine the sovereignty and governance exercised by all Tribal Nations.”

“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will always respect, honor and fight for tribal communities in New Mexico and across the United States,” said Harris-Walz 2024 NM State Director Danika Padilla in a statement released by the Harris-Walz campaign. “Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for a New Way Forward for Indigenous communities and Americans across the country that will protect reproductive freedom, lower costs for families, and ensure every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead. And we’re honored that the All Pueblo Council of Governors is fighting alongside us to turn the page once and for all on the darkness and division of Donald Trump.”
