7 Days, 7 Ways: Sam Brown Wants To Make Nevada The Nation’s Dumping Ground for Nuclear Waste
November 2, 2024
Brown’s toxic environmental plan includes making Nevada the dumping ground for the nation’s nuclear waste and opposing solar development, all while raking in campaign cash from Big Oil
In the final 7 days leading up to the November election, we’re highlighting MAGA extremist Sam Brown’s 7 most extreme plans that will harm hardworking Nevadans.
Today, we’re looking at Brown’s toxic environmental agenda, which includes turning Nevada into the nation’s nuclear waste dumping grounds and harming Nevada’s booming solar industry, all while raking in campaign dollars from Big Oil and its lobbyists. Brown’s extreme record includes
- Supporting an extreme plan to restart Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste repository in Nevada and calling it an “incredible opportunity” for the state. Brown’s support for restarting Yucca Mountain puts him at odds with Nevada’s environmental, business and elected leaders from both political parties.
- Trying to backtrack on his extreme support for Yucca Mountain after receiving widespread bipartisan criticism. Brown even admitted he “did not know a ton about the history” of Yucca Mountain – an issue that has dominated the state he wants to represent for decades.
- Admitting on the debate stage he hasn’t changed his position from 2022, when he voiced support for reopening Yucca Mountain.
- Opposing solar energy development, saying it was “not for the benefit of Nevadans” and there was no need for Nevada to “resort to” solar energy development.
- During the Nevada Senate debate, Brown doubled down on his opposition to federal plans that would increase renewable energy in Nevada, saying he did not want to see solar panels “destroy” the landscape.
- Opposing the Inflation Reduction Act, which created more than 11,500 good-paying clean energy jobs in Nevada.
- Taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from Big Oil lobbyists while doing their bidding.
